Agreed. Coach Johnson did an amazing job, hopefully to produce benefits in the future!
Raised a Hawkeye, Panther by choice.

The article doesn't say it but he also had an offer from UTSA. I am not sure if Baylor offerred but they showed interest. SMU was probably going to offer. Sometimes the Texas kids are not as well knownin other parts of the country. This is a good pickup by the UNI team.

Added to the commitment list on ESPN. No ranking yet for him or Seth Tuttle.

I sure am glad he had a summer visit to UNI versus a fall/winter trip. That would have been a shocker, especially if it were a cold winter day. Congrats to Jake and the recruiting staff...keep em coming guys, good work!!!

I'm really glad we got the last spot filled. I do not like the idea of leaving any scholarships open in today's age of college basketball.

What a great foundation we have set up for the next several seasons with the guys we have now, and the guys coming in 2011.

Has some pictures of him also.

Imagine how ridiculous that would have sounded a decade a go.

                1. A basketball player from Texas chose to play at the University of Northern Iowa.

                2. He had offers from ARIZONA and MARQUETTE.

                Unbelievable.

Part of this has to be that they understand that Jake will be hanging around a while. Spurning the inevitable job offers that resulted from the sweet 16 run has to give a recruit confidence that the coaching situation will not be markedly changing in 1 or 2 years.

That's just because when players commit to power schools like UNI their ratings get inflated.

As acrobatic and clutch as Deon Mitchell was, if not for Ellison's late mistakes, Mitchell's 25-point performance would've been a losing effort. Instead, he was a hero. Brown, though, still has his teammates.

"The guys played big. We got a little shaky at the end, but everybody stepped up," Brown said. "... Everybody gave us something ... but, they were the better team tonight. They made shots and we didn't make shots in the end."

The two Division I guards put on a show, but Brown struggled individually.

Brown hit just 3-of-10 from the floor and 7-of-13 from the free throw line, but had a team-high eight rebounds and three assists. The Indiana State-signee finished with 14 points for the Eagles (1-1)

Mitchell, who's signed with Northern Iowa, hit nine of 15 from the floor, including three 3-pointers, and scored 18 points in the second half.
There a pic and more to the story that I recommend reading.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

Deon Mitchell 16 points 8 assists (took the 4th quarter off)
