You probably won't see that happening very often.
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

I was suprised at the 2-year deal. Is that normal for a player they might put on the practice squad?

Not uncommon. There's no guarantee he won't get cut tomorrow, so don't read anything into contract length. There are only 5 practice squad spots, and every NFL team probably has 30+ guys competing for them right now.

Multiple year contracts also allow the team to spread signing bonuses over the life of the deal, to allow for more salary cap space.

Congrats Justin, that's some great payoff!

The contract former Concordia Academy wide receiver Justin Surrency signed with the Seattle Seahawks is for $275,000 this year and $345,000 next year, but it is not guaranteed.

Was this game on TV? Anyone see it?
Box score for the Dallas Cowboys vs. Seattle Seahawks NFL game from August 12, 2006 on ESPN. Includes all passing, rushing and receiving stats.

See Surrency played. Had a 7 yard catch. I bet he almost took it to the HOUSE.

Name shows up several time for catching punts and returning a few too in the play-by-play...but doesnt show up in the cumulative stats.

WR Justin Surrency made a diving catch for a long touchdown reception from QB Matt Hasselbeck with CB Kelly Jennings in coverage. Surrency has little chance at earning a spot on the 53-man roster, but the practice squad is an option. Surrency is a scrappy player who always seems to be scrambling, even on routine plays. He was also a top return specialist at Northern Iowa.

It was time for a change. The former "Miss Kitty" will be retiring to Carbondale.

It looks like Surrency will get a chance to play on national TV against the Colts on Sunday Night Football.

Outstanding news! Hopefully he can stick with the team even if it is on the practice squad.
