  • Best and worst towns of the BCS conferences

Pat Forde's latest column on ESPN.com has results of an informal poll of basketball writers covering these conferences. They rate the best and worst towns and best and worst basketball towns. Iowa City and Ames received votes for worst basketball town and worst town respectively.

From the best and worst college towns to running the league table, The Minutes clocks it all.

Not fair. Ames would be a black hole if that team were a little bit better. As far as Iowa City... well... that program's already gone supernova, sadly.

I wonder how the MVC teams/towns would rank.

If it was an ESPN poll, Cedar Rapids would get a few votes (as well as Dekalb)

I wonder that too. Somehow I doubt CF would be a favorite for basketball because of the weather. If they did it for football, I think it would get high marks for best football town.

I have a feeling we would NOT be happy with a similar article written about the MVC. I love it here and wouldn't trade it for anything, but I doubt there would be much appreciation from outsiders.

So this was an informal poll amongst sports writers? And we care why? I put as much stock in this as asking a group of traveling Hari Krishna's.
It's about time we make the McLeod LOUD!

First of all don't knock the Krishna's until you have tried it

Second as far as worst town in general they are wrong. I live in Iowa City and actually like it here. (except for all the hawk fans but what are you gonna do).

Third, Iowa still plays basketball??? who knew
